Paris

I only just made this blog and i can’t remember everything i did in Paris so i’ll give a shortish recount of what i did and some thoughts i had about the great city.

Where i went and what i did

  • I saw the Eiffel Tower (well duh). Some official dude told us the lines would be 2-3 hours which was very believable from the line sizes, but it turned out only taking a half hour.
  • We stayed in an apartment just near the Basilique Du Sacre-Coeur (it’s a massive church). There’s 300 steps to the top of the church which was as you can imagine tiring to say the least.
  • Spent many many Euros and time on train rides, although the transport system is Amazing. I mean trains come every 5 mins or less and the doors open and close within 10-15 seconds of each other. So it was definitely worth it.
  • Walked around aimlessly exploring Montmarte. Montmarte is virtually the only hill in France and is where artists such as Picasso and Dali painted heaps.
  • Hopped on this big boat and cruised along the Seine River, which had great photo opportunities of many Parisian landmarks.
  • I saw the Arc De Triomphe, which was pretty cool and way bigger than i thought it would be.
  • Went to the Louvre (you know, where the Mona Lisa and Venus De Milo is and where part of The Da Vinci Code was set). I got a Multimedia guide (touch screen thingo), which was very helpful and recommendable-it gives commentaries on the main works and directions around the place. I’m almost done (there’s heaps to do in Paris lol)
  • I visited the “Musee de l’Armee” which contained nearly every weapon and uniform of war inside it.
  • I also visited the Centre Georges Pompidou which is a modern art gallery that i would recommend to anyone (and I’m not a fan of art). Although the so called ‘modern’ art was quite disturbing, for example in the religious section one work was a video of a naked women cutting a pentagram into her stomach etc..
  • And last but not least my older Sister came to stay with us for a few Nights from London.

Thoughts and observations about Paris

  • Well it’s not necessarilly all around the city (and i do not mean to offend any Parisians) but around Montmarte the streets weren’t what you would call clean, but whatever.
  • I’m confused as to why water was coming out of the gutter and drains on a sunny day :S.
  • The transport system (particularly the trains) rock, and is extremely efficient unlike somewhere i live *cough *cough*….Sydney.
  • If you translate Euros to Aussie dollars everything is really expensive.
  • And obviously Paris is very beautiful

All in all paris was a great experience and i’m looking forward to coming back again.
